''Premise'': the characters are the younger generation of a travel and courier agency based in Sigil. As their older coworkers retire or go missing (like the last party, which included their boss, did, missing for well over a year after a particularly hasty departure), they are left the ones looking after the biz.

''Starting niceties'': the travel agency (the name of which if for players to decide, unless they trust the DM to do so; the same applies to any further suggested player decisions) has two buildings on the Planes: a central office in Sigil, a small house (4ss) in the Sigil's Ward of players' choice, and a base of operations on the Plane of players' choice. The buildings are linked with a two-sided portal. The base of operations also has four two-sided portals to the Planes of players' choice (any two of these may be switched for three one-sided portals), and its storage contains wondrous items capable of mostly protecting the employees from imminently deadly planar environments (specifics up to the DM). The players get 80000 gp to build the two buildings up to their specifications using the prices in the Stronghold Builder's Guide. This money can't be spent on anything else. 

''Contacts'': each player character gets twice his Charisma score in Contact points. With these points, he can buy contacts - creatures of all kinds he's met in his previous journeys through the Planes. Contacts have two ratings - connection and loyalty. Connection determines how influential your contact is, with 1 being a good source of info like a tavern owner or other such local pillar of society, and 5 being a creature with significant influence on his Plane, or minor influence on several Planes. Loyalty determines how forthcoming your contact is and how willing he is to put his own well-being at risk for your sake, with 1 being acquaintances and 5 - lifelong friends. The sum of both ratings for any contact can't be over 8. Any contact is subject to DM approval.
